Whether it's a barbecue or a buffet table, the stuffed eggs are probably the typical appetizer in many meals that you can attend throughout the year. Stuffed eggs are full of protein and may be a healthier choice than the other foods on the menu. However, preparing them yourself could be an even smarter option.
Calories from stuffed eggs
Traditional stuffed eggs are prepared by removing the yolk from an egg and combining them with mayonnaise and other ingredients, such as mustard and herbs for flavor. While a large egg contains 80 calories and 5 grams of fat, a typical stuffed egg can contain more than twice as many calories per serving.
Remove fat, remove calories
A variety of methods will eliminate fat and calories in stuffed eggs. Look for recipes where part or all of the mayonnaise is replaced by low-fat natural yogurt, sour cream or cream cheese. In some recipes, the yolk can be removed and replaced with these ingredients.
