If your pantry includes tuna, you are not the only one. According to the National Fisheries Institute, consumers in the United States have more than one million pounds of tuna available per year. Although eating canned fish on its own is not exciting, combined with mayonnaise between two slices of fresh bread can be a substantial snack, even if only one already contains many calories.
Savor a tasty sandwich
While a tuna sandwich can be prepared in different ways, the standard way is to mix the fish with mayonnaise. According to the U. S. Department of Agriculture, a can of 172 grams of tuna contains 220 calories. If you mix the contents with two tablespoons of reduced fat mayonnaise, or olive oil, you add about 108 calories more. Two slices of white bread increase the number of calories by 148, but if you prefer to use whole wheat bread, the same two slices add 162 calories. Therefore, a tuna sandwich prepared with white bread contains 476 calories, while one made with whole wheat will have 490 calories. Then, if you want to reduce the number of calories, prepare the tuna mixture with a simple, low-fat, sugar-free Greek yogurt.
