Olives have only four to five calories per unit. "Low calorie" foods contain 40 calories or less per serving, according to the labeling guidelines of the Food and Drug Administration of the United States. A serving of 10 green or black olives contains only 40 calories. If the pit is removed and filled with other types of food, such as garlic, peppers or cheese, they significantly increase the caloric content. Also, if you add oil to the olives as a dressing, you will increase the amount of calories.
Add calories to olives
Stuffing olives with cheese greatly increases the fat content of the olives, which adds calories. One gram of fat contributes approximately 9 calories to your body. If you add blue cheese, cream cheese or goat cheese, add 8 to 9 grams of fat per ounce of cheese. Stuffing olives with peppers or garlic does not increase the calorie content of the olives so much, but a teaspoon of olive oil adds 4.5 grams of dietary fat.
