The biggest benefit of drinking water is that you can drink as much as you want without adding No more calories to your diet. Apart from that, water can, in fact, decrease your appetite and improve your weight loss efforts. Just be careful with your water consumption, because too much can hurt, instead of helping your health.
The old basic rule is to drink 8-ounce glasses (227, 3 ml) of water each day, which is 64 ounces (1, 8 l). But depending on your gender and activity level, that's probably not enough. According to the Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine, men need 3, 7 liters, or 125 ounces, which is about 15 1/2 glasses of 8 ounces (227, 3 ml) of liquid each day. As a woman, you should drink 2, 7 liters, or 91 ounces, which is about 11 1/2 8-ounce glasses. But for weight loss, you may want to drink more than that and base your water intake around your meals.
Additional water for weight loss
In 2010, researchers at the National Meeting of the American Society of Chemists No. 240 presented findings on the benefits of water to lose pounds. The study included 48 adults separated into two groups. The first group did not add any additional water to their diets. Participants in the second group drank two 8-ounce glasses (227, 3 ml) of water before each meal. Participants who drank the extra water used to consume 75 to 90 fewer calories of that meal, probably because the water filled them. After the conclusion of the 12-week study, the researchers observed that those who drank water lost 5 pounds more, on average, than the group of participants who did not drink any additional water. So, before you take that fork, fill your glass with water a couple of times.
Take too much
Even though you can, generally, drink as much water as you want while dieting, be careful of passing yourself. Large amounts of water cause an imbalance in your electrolytes. In extreme cases, your pulse weakens and you may faint. If your urine is clear, if you begin to have headaches or if you become very weak, it could be a sign that you are drinking too much water and that you need to stop before it becomes detrimental to your health.
Generally, if you feel thirsty, your body is telling you that you are dehydrating. Sometimes a stomach that roars is simply a sign that you are thirsty, not hungry. The next time you feel the urge to have a snack, drink a glass or two of water instead. Finish a task, such as folding clothes or ending emails, and then watch your level of hunger go. If you still feel hungry, take an apple, a handful of nuts or another healthy snack (with another glass of water, of course).
