How To Cook Brussel Sprouts On The Stove

Brussels sprouts (Brussels sprouts) nutritious are visually appealing; the round vegetables look like tiny cabbages. However, the slightly bitter taste of them is often an acquired taste. Choosing the smallest heads of vegetables, no larger than 2 inches in diameter, can increase the sweetness and attractiveness of the same. Cooking Brussels sprouts over the stove is easy and a healthy way to get your daily iron, fiber and vitamin C needs.

Boil or steam stew

Wash the Brussels sprouts with water and remove the withered leaves or discolored before cooking.

Cut the Brussels sprouts in half to minimize the bitter taste of the vegetable. The incision helps to regulate the cooking time of the vegetable so that they cook uniformly inside and out.

Pour water into a cold cooking pot. If you are going to boil, add a cup of water for each cup of vegetables. If you are going to steam them, put a basket of steam in the pot and add 1 to 2 inches of water. Boiling or steaming are similar cooking methods, however, boiling them retains more of the nutritional value of Brussels sprouts than boiling them.

Place the cooking pot on the stove over high heat and bring the water to a boil. Add the cabbages in the pot or steam basket and return the water to boil. Cook them for eight to 10 minutes.

Drain the cooked Brussels sprouts or remove them from the steam basket and place them in cold water to stop cooking. Serve them immediately.
