The fruit offers a wide variety of flavors to make a simple and healthy pancake sauce to use instead of syrup. The ripe fruits are naturally sweet, eliminating the need to add sugar to your pancake sauce. Apples, bananas, peaches, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and oranges are just a few of the fruits that serve pancakes. Use any fruit or combination of fruits you can dream of.
Add enough water to cover the bottom of your pot, about 1/4 inch deep.
Add 3 cups of fruit to the pot.
Sweeten fruit sauce, if desired, with 1 to 3 tablespoons of sugar, maple syrup or honey.
Cook the fruit over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until it starts to break and the sauce thickens slightly, about 15 minutes.
Serve hot sauce over your favorite pancakes.
Fruit that is not well ripe may need to be sweetened. Adding sugar also helps thicken the sauce and make it a little more syrupy. To make a thicker fruit sauce without adding sugar, use 1 to 3 tablespoons of corn starch or cassava flour.
