How To Stretch The Tendons Of The Fingers

Your fingers play an important role in Daily tasks, including writing, cleaning, getting ready in the morning and exercising. The tendons of your fingers may become stiff as a result of injuries from overuse, such as tendonitis, or traumatic injuries, including fracturing a finger. The rigid tendons of your fingers can inhibit your ability to perform your daily routine. Fortunately, there are exercises you can do to strengthen and increase the flexibility in these tendons.

Complete a finger extension exercise. Place your flat hand on the table, or another hard surface. Your fingers should be fully extended. Slowly use your opposite hand to assist and lift each finger from the table. Raise your finger as far as you can. Lower back to the starting position and move to the next finger. Complete a series, raising the five fingers, up to 10 repetitions.

Performs finger separations. Place your flat hand on a hard surface, such as a table. The fingers should be fully extended and touching each other. Extend the fingers as far as possible. Hold this position for two seconds. Return to the starting position and repeat. Complete a series of 20 repetitions.

Wrinkle a paper. Grab a sheet of paper and place it in the palm of your hand. Use your fingers to tighten it to make it a ball. Relax and repeat 20 times. To save paper, stretch the sheet you used previously and crinkle it again.

Pick up small items. Place a wide variety of small objects on a table. Objects may include safety pins, paper clips, marbles, pens or coins. Use your affected fingers to gather the objects and transfer them to the opposite side of the table. Complete this exercise for three minutes at a time.

Warnings

Exercises should be done at the discretion of your doctor. They can cause minimal discomfort. However, you should not experience pain when exercising. If you feel pain, stop exercising and contact your doctor.
